Your lights are on, the team is ready, and Google tells a customer you are closed. Before changing the entire weekly schedule, check exactly what the customer sees. Incorrect opening hours, a holiday exception and a business marked temporarily closed need different corrections.
Quick Answer
If Google shows your business as closed when it is open, check the correct location’s main hours, today’s special hours and its open or closed status. Update the relevant field under Edit profile and Hours, save it, then check the edit status and the public listing in both Search and Maps.
Identify which kind of “closed” you are seeing
Ask for a screenshot that includes the business name, address, hours and time of the search. This helps separate a wrong branch from a wrong schedule. If your business has several locations, compare the address before editing anything.
| What the customer sees | First place to check |
|---|---|
| Closed now, with a next opening time | Main hours and any special hours for that date |
| Wrong hours for a holiday | Special hours for the specific date |
| Temporarily closed or permanently closed | The business’s operating status |
| Delivery ends earlier than the shop closes | Service-specific More hours, alongside main hours |
Write down the expected schedule before you start. For example, “Tuesday 9 AM to 6 PM” gives you something specific to compare with the saved settings and the public result.
Correct the normal weekly schedule
Open the Business Profile you manage and select Edit profile, then Hours. Beside the main Hours field, choose Edit and Open with main hours. Select the days you operate, enter the opening and closing times, and save, following Google’s business-hours instructions.
Check AM and PM carefully and look for an unchecked weekday. If you close for a break, enter two opening periods for that day. A shop open from 9 AM to noon and 1 PM to 6 PM should show both periods rather than a continuous day.
Use the 24 hours setting only on days when it accurately describes the business. For services with separate availability, such as delivery, Google provides More hours. Do not replace the whole business schedule with the hours of one service.
Look for a date-specific exception
If the weekly schedule is right but today’s result is wrong, inspect Special hours. Google uses these for temporary changes such as holidays or events without changing the regular week. An incorrect closed-day entry is easy to overlook when you are checking only the main schedule.
In Edit profile and Hours, edit Special hours and select the relevant date. If you are open that day, clear the Closed box and enter the correct times, then save. Google’s special-hours guidance also recommends confirming official holiday hours even when they match your usual hours.
Special hours require Open with main hours to display. Google distinguishes short closures of up to six consecutive days from closures of seven or more days, or an unknown duration, for which it recommends Temporarily closed. Choose the setting that describes the actual situation.
Reopen the existing business when that is the right correction
If the same business at the same location is operating but marked closed, follow Google’s reopening instructions. Under Edit profile and Hours, edit the Hours field, choose Open with main hours, enter the accurate schedule and save.
A former location marked permanently closed after a move needs separate handling. Google’s reopening guidance says not to reopen a business marked permanently closed as part of a location or name change. If relocation is involved, consult that guidance and our article on Google reviews after a business move before changing the old listing.
Confirm the correction reached customers
A saved change is not always an accepted change. Google’s edit-status guidance distinguishes Accepted, Pending and Not approved. Reviews of edits usually take up to ten minutes, but Google says some can take up to thirty days.
If the edit is not approved, check the available explanation and appeal options. Also look for an alert in Edit profile: Google may update business information after receiving reports that it is inaccurate. Record what changed rather than assuming a staff member caused it.
Once the correction is accepted, check the public hours in Search and Maps and keep a dated screenshot. If they still conflict with the saved schedule, send Business Profile support the profile link, affected date, expected hours and screenshots. If the profile itself is missing rather than showing incorrect hours, use our separate guide to a business that cannot be found by name.
